KUANTAN: The state education department is investigating the authenticity of a video purportedly showing a girl being bullied and beaten by a group of girls near a staircase which has gone viral on social media.
State Education department director Datuk Rosdi Ismail said he was waiting for an update from his officers whether the victim and the bullies were from a secondary school here or the incident took place in another district.
"We are trying to identify if those featured in the clip were female students from a secondary school in Pahang. At this moment, we cannot confirm the authenticity of the video.
"However, the video clip is very disturbing and if it occurred in Pahang, then those responsible should face punishment for their action," he said today.
Meanwhile district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said the department had not received any report on the incident and were investigating the matter.
"So far the victim or her family members have not come forward to lodge a report...we are investigating the source of the video," he said.
Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang said he was trying to get in touch with a social media user who had posted comments about the incident on Facebook.
"Several people have posted various messages about the incident but one of them seems to have detailed information about the incident, its location and might even recognise the girls in the picture. I have messaged the person to clarify her claims that the girls in the video were from a certain secondary school in Kuantan," he said, adding he was waiting for the person to reply.
The clip which has gone viral had alleged the victim was a Form Five student from a secondary school here.
The victim, who was bullied by a group of girls, had her pants pulled down and shirt lifted over her head.
One of the attackers was seen slapping the victim's face before repeatedly hitting her face with a shoe.
Despite the victim, who was lying on the floor, pleading with the girls to stop, several others who were earlier watching the incident manhandled the victim before some of them were seen recording the incident on their handphones.
