Report lodged against Dr Mahathir for uttering insults during Pakatan Harapan-led rally

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Non-Governmental Organisations Coalition has lodged a police report against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for allegedly uttering insults on the Bugis and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during the 'Anti-Kleptocracy Rally' at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya last Saturday.

The coalition chairman Nazilah Idris said Dr Mahathir's statements that the Bugis are pirates and asking them to go back to where they came from were highly inappropriate.

"It is an insult to the Prime Minister, the royal institution and even the Sultan of Selangor by saying that the Bugis are pirates. It is a condemned act and unethical of a former premier and statesman.

"It is also unfair for Malays of Bugis ancestry in Malaysia when Dr Mahathir said those who had strayed into Malaysia to go back to Bugis. It is very insensitive and hurtful to talk of someone's roots and descent especially in Malaysia which is a multiracial country.

"We must respect the different religions and cultures because that guarantees Malaysia's prosperity and wellbeing. I urge the police to investigate Dr Mahathir for his actions that could disrupt peace and harmony. The police should not compromise with those who are insolent towards the country's leadership and does nothing but play dirty politics," said Nazilah today.

She was met by reporters after making a police report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters.

A similar report was also made at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters yesterday.

In her reports, Nazilah also called the police to probe the action of several people who had used the Jalur Gemilang as a mat to sit on during the illegal rally.

She asked that the opposition refrain from accusing Umno of hiring people to do so.

"They should show proof to back their claims. Otherwise, it remains as slander aimed at tarnishing the good name of Umno," she added.

Nazilah also said the rally's organiser, Pakatan Harapan, must also be investigated for flouting the laws by going ahead with the illegal rally despite being warned against it by the police.
