MRT Corp signs corruption-free pledge, aims to be responsible and accountable

KUALA LUMPUR: Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) looks to be the first railway organisation in Malaysia to sign the Corruption-Free Pledge with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said the company has taken on the heavy responsibility in ensuring integrity and good governance in the organisation as they need to be accountable to the public.

“The company believes that it has a duty to the people, to be as transparent and accountable to them as it has been entrusted with taxpayers’ money to develop the Klang Valley MRT (KVMRT) project.

“MRT Corp is not a public-listed company but we have never failed to produce our annual report, detailing on the progress of the project and its financial situation,” Shahril said.

He added the pledge was strongly supported by MRT Corp board members, the management team and the staff, which proved that the company is serious in its anti-corruption fight and this pledge was not just taken for publicity purposes.

“The pledge made earlier this month reinforces the corruption-free stand which involved around 500 MRT Corp staff. They vowed to refrain from corrupt practices while carrying out their responsibilities in developing Malaysia’s infrastructure project.

“We want all of us to become the catalyst for change in the society to reject corruption and abuse of power,” Shahril said.

The ceremony, held at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre, was witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad on Oct 5.

MRT Corp staff also handed over 537 application forms to Sahabat Gerakan Revolusi Anti Rasuah (Gerah).
