Sultan of Selangor expresses profound sorrow over Yeoh's death

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed a “profound sorrow” in his condolences to the family of Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay, on the business mogul’s recent demise.

Sultan Sharafuddin described Yeoh as a bold businessman, recalled his friendship with Yeoh for many years and witnessed success in the establishment of YTL Group.

“I express my profound sorrow to learn of the passing of Tiong Lay.

“Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and I wish to convey our sincere condolences to his beloved wife, Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong, his family and all his children and offer our heartfelt sympathies,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin said because of Tiong Lay’s endless contribution to the industry and society, the prominent philanthropist was conferred with the Datuk Paduka Mahkota Selangor title in 1983.

“For his determination and great contributions, the Selangor Palace also conferred him with the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor title in 1996.

“I will never forget his unbridled courage, generosity and graciousness. Everyone who knew him will miss him dearly.

“May our condolences bring his family consolation and peace during this difficult time.”
