Car catches fire, believed to be from overheated powerbank

KANGAR: A powerbank which was left inside a car is believed to have overheated and caused a fire.

The car, a Perodua Kancil, was partially damaged in the incident.

Fortunately, quick action by passers-by prevented the fire from spreading to the other parts of the car, which was parked near Persiaran Jubli Emas shoplots.

According to a witness who declined to be named, he saw thick smoke emanating from the car's windows.

"I was passing by the parking lot when I saw thick smoke in the car.

"When I peeked into the car, I saw a power bank on the front passenger seat on fire," he said.

With the help of several other passers-by, they splashed water through a small opening of the window to put out the fire.

Meanwhile, Perlis Fire and Rescue Department assistant director ( Operation) Muhamad Firdaus Yusop said the department received a call over the incident at 11.53am.

However, the fire had been put out when the team arrived at the scene.

"Checks showed that only 10 per cent of the car was damaged by in the fire and cause of the fire is still under investigation," he said.
