Factory worker succumbs to injury 3 days after car-van collision near Sg Petani

SUNGAI PETANI: A factory worker, who was among 11 people injured in a head-on collision on Tuesday, succumbed to her injuries earlier today.

Nur Fatin Sharip, 20, died at 5.24am, more than 72 hours after she was treated at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for head injuries.

Her brother Mohamad Nizam Radzi, 41, said Fatin died without regaining consciousness.

"She was admitted to the intensive care unit for three days before being transferred to a normal ward but her condition was not improving.

"At 5am today a nurse told our family that Fatin's condition took a turn for the worse and minutes later she passed away," he said when contacted.

Nizam said his family is still in shocked and saddened by the incident but has accepted her death as fate.

It was reported that two people were killed and 11 others injured when a car collided with a van transporting factory workers near Kampung Padang Buluh, early Tuesday morning.

In the 5.55am incident, a Perodua Myvi crashed head-on with the van, which was heading in the opposite direction, towards Sungai Petani.

The impact of the collision caused the van to spin several times, throwing all 10 passengers out of the vehicle.

One of the female passengers, Nur Izaty Syazwani Zamri, 20, was killed when she was crushed by the car after being flung out of the van.

Also killed was the MyVi driver identified as Mohamad Fakhurazzi Samsudin, 30.
