Popular Bentong lemang restaurant ordered closed over sanitary concerns

KUANTAN: A popular lemang restaurant in Bentong near here has been directed to close for two weeks over poor hygiene conditions.

Pahang Health Director Dr Sha'ari Ngadiman said the restaurant was issued a notice of closure under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.

"The notice was issued after taking into account many factors, including storage of wet items, packaging, hygiene of kitchen appliances and flooring.

"We found that the temperature in the fridge used was unsuitable, and (we) feared that it could promote bacterial growth if wet items or food are stored there.

“The cleanliness of the kitchen floor was also unsatisfactory," he told reporters here yesterday.

Dr Sha'ari said although the temporary closure notice is for 14 days, the owner could apply to reopen his business earlier, upon completion of cleaning works. -- BERNAMA
