Widow to receive RM1,160 a month, thanks to hubby's Socso contributions

KUALA NERUS: Unaware that her late husband had contributed to the Social Security Organisation (Socso), Razleen Awang is thankful to be receiving RM1,160 every month.

Razleen, 34, will also receive from Socso a one-off payment for her husband’s funeral.

Her husband, Mohd Amin Ibrahim, 36, was killed after the van he was driving was crushed by a falling tree branch along Jalan Batu Rakit-Kuala Nerus on Oct 7.

Razleen said she would use the money to support her two children’s education.

The two children, Muhammad Amzar Iffat and Muhammad Aniq Ifwat, are aged three and 9 months, respectively.

“Part of the money will be used to pay the loan installment for my new home,” said Razleen, who currently stays at the SKB Penuh Integrasi Batu Rakit quarters in Mengabang Lekor, Batu Rakit.

Socso officers visited her at her home yesterday to hand over the one-off payout for her husband’s funeral.

“She is entitled to the Socso payout because her late husband was a company employee who contributed to the fund.

“He left the company in 2012 to become a government servant,” said State Socso director Nora Yaacob.

Mohd Amin and a 17-year-old student Muhammad Zulfahmi Abdul Halim were crushed to death after the branch of a mahogany tree fell onto their vehicles.

Three others were injured in the incident.
