Banker who went missing while hiking Gunung Gagak found alive

REMBAU: A banker who went missing after failing to make it back from a hike on Gunung Gagak near here has been found alive.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department said Teoh Kok Ping, 28, was found by a search and rescue (SAR) team 19 hours after he was reported missing.

“Teoh appeared weak when he was rescued at 3.01pm today, but he didn’t sustain any injuries,” he told the New Straits Times today.

He said the SAR team, made up of local villagers, policemen, firemen, Civil Defence Force personnel and Forestry Department rangers, was deployed at 9pm last night.

“We received an emergency call from Teoh at 8.15pm. However, the SAR operation had to be called off because of the darkness.

“The operation resumed this morning and more people were roped in. The search area was also expanded,” he said, adding that Teoh was found at the peak of Gunung Gagak.

The spokesman said the victim started hiking the mountain at 5.30pm yesterday but lost his way some three hours later.
