SEMPORNA: A Chinese tourist drowned at a resort’s diving centre at Pulau Mabul, near here on Friday.
The body of 26-year-old Shen Dong was found in the water by a security guard at around 11.50am.
"The victim was sent to the Semporna Hospital after showing no response to first aid. He was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty,” Semporna police chief Supt Peter Umbuas said
It is learnt that Dong and six friends arrived at the resort at 10am, and visited its diving centre soon after.
"Based on a statement from the owner of the diving centre, life jackets were available, but the victim did not put one on, as he only went for a swim,” Peter said.
The case has been classified as sudden death. -- BERNAMA
