No Malaysians involved in New York's suspected terror attack

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians were involved in the suspected terror act in Lower Manhattan, New York Wednesday morning, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

In a statement today, the ministry said the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide subsequent timely updates to the Malaysian community in the city.

“The local authorities are currently investigating the incident. The ministry expresses its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of the incident,” the statement read.

The ministry urged anyone involved in the incident to contact the consulate in the event of any emergency or for further information via the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York at:

Earlier today, a truck driver drove straight into a bicycle and pedestrian lane next to the Hudson River, killing at least eight people and injuring 11 others.

The suspect was shot by police and taken into custody.

Officials have labelled the incident, which occurred around 3.05pm (1905 GMT), as an “act of terror”.
