Heart condition caused death of man assaulted by son

JITRA: The cause of death of a 67-year-old man who died 14 hours after he was assaulted by his son was due to a heart condition.

This finding was made after a post-mortem was carried out on his body earlier today.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim when contacted confirmed the report.

Mohd Tarmizi Abdul Hamid was pronounced dead at 12.35am today while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

Police had earlier classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“We are now investigating the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon,” he said.

It was learnt that the suspect, aged 28, who was also a drug addict, was detained by police after he allegedly assaulted his parents at their house in Kampung Sri Muda near Sungai Korok at 11am yesterday.

The suspect was tested positive for cannabis.

Police seized a saw and a weighing scale believed to have been used in the incident.

Meanwhile, Tarmizi’s wife Tom Wahid, 64, who sustained injuries to her back, was reported to be in stable condition at the hospital.
