Government to ensure prompt weather alerts to warn people

KUALA LUMPUR: Weather alerts will be given priority especially areas that are prone to floods, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said.

Salleh said the enhanced weather forecast would enable the people to prepare for any untoward incidents related to floods.

"The ministry will collaborate with the Meteorological department by announcing it through various platforms such as mainstream media and social media," he said adding that the weather conditions these days were unpredictable.

He further added that immediate action would be taken if there were any communication disruptions at flood hit areas such as Penang and Kedah.

"As of now, we have not received any complaints regarding communication disturbances," he said.

Salleh was met after launch of "New Media Political Engagement and Participation in Malaysia" in Parliament, a book that was first published in the United Kingdom on Oct 6.

"This shows our authors have received international recognition," he said adding the author, Dr. Sara Chinnasamy had featured 30 case studies of new media political engagement and participations.
