(Update) Negri Sembilan's Tunku Deanna laid to rest at Bandar Seri Menanti

BANDAR SERI MENANTI: Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir's younger sister, the late Tunku Datin Deanna Tuanku Munawir was laid to rest next to the Tuanku Munawir Royal Mosque here this afternoon.

Tunku Deanna, 62, was buried after the Friday prayers in a ceremony steeped in royal tradition at a special plot for royal family members, located next to the royal mausoleum.

Earlier , Tunku Deanna's remains was bathed at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti and members of the public were allowed to pay their last respects between 9am and 12pm.

At noon, her coffin was taken to the nearby mosque for the funeral prayers led by State mufti Datuk Mohd Yusoff Ahmad.

Also present were Tunku Ampuan Tuanku Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

It was learnt that Tuanku Muhriz was on his way home from overseas and scheduled to land at Kuala Lumpur International Airport this evening.

After the prayers, the funeral procession moved to the burial plot and her coffin was lowered into the grave by Armed Forces and police personnel.

Tuanku Munawir Royal Mosque Imam, Abdul Rahman Ibrahim then recited the talqin. This was later followed by Tuanku Najihah pouring scented water on the grave and scattered flower petals.

Tunku Deanna's husband, Tengku Datuk Amran Tengku Mohd Yusof and her three daughters, aged between 34 and 41, later proceeded to pour the scented water.

"She was a down to earth person and always greet everybody she met including the nurses and the hospital cleaner.

"She was friendly with everyone and sometimes even bought the nurses lunch during her medical treatment at HUKM (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital) and was very popular among the nurses." recalled her husband.

Tunku Deanna died yesterday at Damansara Specialist Centre due to complications of diabetes.

Her remains was brought back to Istana Besar Seri Menanti last night.

The funeral ceremony ended at 2.45pm.
