1,000 boys, including newborn, undergo mass circumcision ceremony in Baling

BALING: A 25-day-old baby was among 1,000 boys who underwent a mass circumcision ceremony held at Kompleks Rakan Muda here on Saturday.

The annual event, held since 2007, was jointly organised by Umno’s Baling division and Parliamentary service centre.

Baling Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the charity programme, which was offered free-of-charge to the public, received an overwhelming response owing to the school holidays.

"The programme is aimed at providing an opportunity for boys to undergo the procedure among friends and family members; while at the same time, easing the financial burden of those from lower income groups," he said

Earlier, Azeez presented school uniform aid to over 600 children from the Kemas kindergarten who will begin Year One of schooling next year.

As for the 25-day-old baby, his father, Syazwan Mohd Ayob, 31, was anxious over the procedure, but understood that Islam encourages circumcision during infancy.

He said a doctor determined that his son, Syiab Azzuhri, is in good health to undergo the procedure and would heal more quickly than older children.
