Bus from Singapore collides with two lorries near Gopeng; 14 injured

GOPENG: Twelve passengers of an express bus and their driver were injured when their vehicle collided with two lorries at Km294.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near here, early this morning.

The 5.30am accident occurred when the bus, bound for Ipoh from Singapore, collided with a container lorry, and a lorry transporting a consignment of paper.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that a distress call was placed to them at 5.41am, and that their personnel were immediately rushed to the scene.

“The firemen extricated the container lorry's driver, who was trapped and also injured, before sending him to the medic team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Plus Highway via its Twitter account said that a section of the left lane of the NSE where the accident took place has been closed to facilitate the towing away of the three heavy vehicles.

It said this has resulted in traffic moving slowly for about 3km up to the cordoned-off section.
