GEORGE TOWN: A 61-year-old man here has been detained for allegedly molesting his 7-year-old neighbour repeatedly over the past one year.
The man’s “dark secret” came to light when the young victim finally related her ordeal to a family member, who subsequently contacted the Talian Nur hotline to lodge a complaint.
It is learnt that the man bought the girl’s silence by providing her ice cream treats and money each time he finished molesting her.
“The victim also alleges that the man had penetrated her private parts, fondled her and (forced her to) engage in indecent acts on numerous occasions (at several places), including her house in Air Hitam here.
“However, she only reported the matter on Tuesday,” a source revealed.
It is understood that a team from the Welfare Department rushed to the victim’s house to meet the victim’s father, before a decision was made to lodge a police report.
“Checks showed that there were old tears in the victim’s private parts, but a doctor has yet to ascertain the cause of the tears,” the source added.
The man was brought to the magistrate’s court today for a remand order to assist in an investigation into the case under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017.
He has been remanded for seven days.
Police have yet to issue any official statement on the matter due to the sensitivity of the case.
