Jamal Yunos out on police bail

KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has been released on police bail after his remand order expired today.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed this when contacted today.

Jamal was remanded two days to facilitate investigation over alleged threats he made against former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

He was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.

Jamal was arrested at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Saturday night after attending the Umno general assembly and was brought in an unmarked police car to the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Last Friday, Jamal was reported as saying he would take the law in his own hand and hunt Zaid down if police failed to investigate the DAP member over his remarks allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor.

Earlier last week, during the general assembly, Jamal had also torched an effigy of Zaid outside the PWTC grounds.

Zaid has stirred controversy when he tweeted a response to an interview in which the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah criticised Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In a Twitter post last Monday, Zaid said the Selangor ruler should be careful with his words as no one would be “immune” if the country "burns".

"When some Rulers play politics; they must know the consequences. Don't think there is no price for partisanship," Zaid tweeted.

The post came after Sultan Sharafuddin had, in an interview with an English daily, said that Mahathir was an "angry man" and would "burn the whole country with his anger".
