Kit Siang should deny his intention to become Prime Minister: Mahdzir

TEMERLOH: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang should deny his intention to become the Prime Minister in the event that Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th General Election.

In reiterating the call, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mahdzir Khalid said it would be impossible for Lim to refuse to be the Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the coming election.

“He has been a politician for 50 years and Dap has 38 parliamentary seats as compared to other parties in Pakatan Harapan,” said Mahdzir in a statement after attending a state-level eudcational programme for teachers here.

"To ensure that he becomes Prime Minister, Kit Siang needs the support of the Malays and he succeeded in using Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and now Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to be used as a means to attract Malay voters,” Mahdzir said.

In his winding up speech during the 71st Umno General Assembly, Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said he has heard of reports about Kit Siang wanting to become the Prime Minister.

This follows a statement by former Jawi assemblyman Tan Beng Huat, who left DAP on the allegation that Kit Siang was a dictator and that he was not able to tolerate the veteran politician’s leadership style.

Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim had also said Kit Siang aspires to become the Prime Minister because he wish to hold on to the highest position in DAP and maintain his reign on the party.

He said that Kit Siang also wishes to be the Prime Minister to save his son Lim Guan Eng, who is also Penang Chief Minister, from being jailed over corruption allegations.
