SEREMBAN: The people must be alert, wary and not be too trusting of cheap baby formula as it could either be fake, smuggled or stolen.
Negri Sembilan Public Utilities, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee Chairman Datuk Abu Ubaidah Redza said the people should not risk the health of their infants on suspect baby milk just to save a few bucks.
"A product is cheap as it could be fake, smuggled or stolen goods or promotional goods. Do not be too trusting," Abu Ubaidah said in a phone interview here today.
Abu Ubaidah was commenting on the discovery of fake baby formula which came to light last Thursday when the Johor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized 210 boxes of fake baby milk formula, worth about RM42,000, from five supermarkets and pharmacies in the state.
"If there are symptoms, parents must take their babies to see the doctor right way to verify if the illness is due to the fake formula milk.
If it is confirmed that their children fall sick due to the fake milk formula, the parennts must report the matter to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ministry right away."
Abu Ubaidah said to date, the state has not received any reports of fake milk formula in the state but warned that those who cut corners without thinking of its repercussions to the people especially on young infants will face the full brunt of the law.
