Introduce Wasatiyyah in schools, universities, says Asyraf

KUALA LUMPUR: The Wasatiyyah’s philosophy and approach should be introduced as one of the key elements of teaching and learning at schools and universities.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said this was one of the long-term plans to develop the Wasatiyyah policy in youth to prepare them for the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).

“Our focus is to instil good values embodied in the Wasatiyyah’s approach and to realise that through practices and empowering the younger generation, so that they can face current and future challenges,” he said during a question-and-answer session in Dewan Negara today.

Asyraf was responding to a question from Senator Muhamad Mustafa about the Wasatiyyah Policy.

He added that to ensure youths appreciate Wasatiyyah, emphasis was given on creating values, belief and action based on the principle of simplicity, balance, justice and excellence.

“Under the Malaysia Wasatiyyah Institute under the Prime Minister’s Department, a series of brainstorming sessions and workshop was held. Therefore, a policy was formulated and focus has been set on six strategic areas, such as education and youth, economy and development, administration and legislation, unity and social, politic and statehood and security and defence.”
