KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will not hesitate to take stern action including terminating the contracts of Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) canteen operators found serving food which has gotten bad to students.
The warning by Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki came on the heels of an incident in which students of a MRSM in Negri Sembilan were allegedly served with a dish containing rotten eggs.
The incident has since gone viral on the social media.
Asyraf, in a statement on his Facebook page, said he has asked the Mara management to submit a full report on the incident by today.
"Although I am away abroad, I have instructed the Mara deputy director-general (education) to carry out an investigation immediately, take the necessary action and ensure that such incident will never recur.
"I have no compromise against canteen operators taking lightly matters regarding food preparations for students.
"If negligence actually took place (in the preparation of foods), Mara would take stern action including ending the contract as per the agreement and procedures," the statement said.
The statement was accompanied by a screenshot of a social media posting containing images of a rotten hard-boiled egg that was served to MRSM students in Negri Sembilan.
A social media user claimed the student who consumed the dish containing the rotten egg subsequently suffered from food poisoning.
The same social media users also claimed that this was not the first time a MRSM student was served food that had gotten bad.
