Condolences keep pouring in on social media for Ivana

KUALA LUMPUR: One week after the death of 19- year old Dutch model Ivana Esther Robert Smit, netizens are still flooding social media with words of condolence and disbelief.

Since her death, a campaign has been launched on social media, with the hashtag #truthforivana and #justiceforivana.

Social media platforms have been flooded with messages, with Facebook postings overflowing with words of solace, and Instagram bursting with photo tributes.

Local Facebook user Minny Chan, in a post today shared a picture of a recent newspaper article on the death of Smit, along with the #truthforivana #justiceforivana hashtags, saying she still could not believe this tragic incident could happen to such a young lady.

Another user Mae-Ziele Joseph posted the link of Smit's justice campaign #truthforivana on her Facebook, saying that she will never stop sharing the link until the relevant authorities uncover the truth of the model’s sudden death.

"This will not have an end until we have the truth, regardless of what it is, we want truth with proof! #truthforivana", she said

William Lum, in a post, said that the cases of people who fall from high buildings seems to risen in number and he was deeply saddened by the news.

"It seems a lot of people are falling to their death from high rises, my condolences to her family.

"A beautiful woman whatever the reason being there it does not justify her life to be taken, whoever it is should be brought to justice," he said.

Instagram user, Candy Stewart shared her deepest condolences on Smit's photo and wished for the family members of the young model not to lose hope while searching for justice.

"I hope the family finds answers and closure, this is really sad and a horrible way to die.

"My religion believes that there will be a time with no more death someday, may the family find comfort in that hope," she said.

Royallny, in his Instagram post which includes a photo of the Dutch model, said the public can donate to help the family send an investigator to Kuala Lumpur and give the family a chance to find the truth about what really happened that particular morning.

A donation page has been set up to fund a Dutch pathologist to travel here to determine the cause of Smit's death, whether it was an accident or otherwise.

The page claimed that about €4,000 (RM19,301) is needed for the pathologist's travel expenses.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah had said the police would reclassify the case if criminal elements were involved.

It was reported that Smit, who has dual Dutch and Belgian citizenship, was found naked at the balcony of a sixth floor unit in the condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

Smit was also the second runner-up in the Malaysia Supermodel Search 2014, when she was 15 years old.
