Najib arrives in Maldives for two-day official visit

MALE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak arrived here for a two-day official visit, from today.

The Prime Minister and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor landed at the Velana International Airport on Hulhule Island from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

On hand to greet them were Maldives’ Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Mohamed Asim and his colleague Home Affairs Minister Azleen Ahmed, who was also minister-in-attendance.

The Prime Minister and his wife were later ferried by boat to Kurumba resort on a nearby island, where they will stay during the visit.

He is scheduled to have a meeting with Malaysian ministers and government officials at Kurumba later tonight to fine-tune points for their bilateral discussions with the Maldivian government tomorrow.

Several official functions had been lined for the Prime Minister tomorrow which involves Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

One of the highlights is their four-eyed meeting at the president’s office here.

Malaysia and Maldives are scheduled to sign four Memoranda of Understanding at the presidential office during Najib’s trip.

Najib’s visit is at the invitation of the Maldives president.

Malaysian delegation includes ministers Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Tan Sri Noh Omar, Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and deputy minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
