Woman seriously injured in fall during trek at Gunung Besar Hantu

KUALA KLAWANG: A woman endured 13 hours of pain after she fell into a ravine and broke her arm and leg during a trek up Gunung Besar Hantu here on Sunday.

Noor Jamiah Azizatul Rahimah Maskor, who had started climbing the 1,462-metre mountain along with 18 friends at 9am, lost her footing and fell into the 2.5 metre-deep ravine at about 1pm.

Fellow climbers tried to rescue the 31-year-old Johorean, but to no avail, as she could not move.

"Some of her friends then descended the mountain to contact the Fire and Rescue Department, as there was a lack of network coverage on the mountain.

"The department received the call at 6.26pm and arrived at the location at about 9.12pm.

“The trek was narrow and steep, which made the rescue effort difficult,” said Jelebu Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Fazill Mohd Yunus.

However, Noor Jamiah was brought safely down the mountain at 2.15am this morning and was rushed to the Jelebu Hospital for treatment.

Fazill said 13 members from the Jelebu Fire and Rescue Department, Simpang Pertang and Bandar Seri Jempol were involved in the operation.
