843 flood evacuees remain at two relief centres in Kemaman

KUALA TERENGGANU: Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Mentok is the sole Kemaman district school which remains closed following recent flooding, as it is functioning as one of two relief centres for flood evacuees.

The school’s 570 pupils, 43 teachers and four administrators have therefore been given leave for another day, State Education Department director Shafruddin Ali Hussin said today.

Meanwhile, state Civil Defence Department director Lt Che Adam A Rahman said the number of flood victims in Kemaman remains at 984 people from 207 families, as of this morning.

Adam said 843 people from 189 families are being housed at SK Bukit Mentok, while 105 victims from 18 families are taking shelter at Surau Pulau Tempurung.
