3 relief centres in Beaufort closed as flood situation improves

BEAUFORT: All three temporary relief centres here were closed down and evacuees were allowed to return home today after the flood situation in the district improved.

The centres — Membakut multipurpose hall, SM Saint Patrick, and Bangunan Kafa Membakut were shut at 3pm.

A total of 637 people from more than 10 villagers sought shelter at the shelters earlier this week when heavy rains triggered a massive flood in low-lying areas.

Sabah Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel had assisted in transporting the evacuees back to their villages since this morning.

Although the flood situation has improved, Sabah APM said it would cooperate with other enforcement agencies to respond to any emergencies.
