Man dies on descent from Mount Kinabalu summit

RANAU: A man has died while trekking at Mount Kinabalu here, today, district Fire and Rescue Department said.

Nazri Omar, 49, from Bangi, Selangor, was descending from the summit when he got separated from his group at the Km8 point of the mountain this morning.

Fellow hikers, upon realising that he was missing, alerted the Sabah Parks and Mountain Search and Rescue Unit (Mosar).

A search operation was immediately launched followed by a distress call to the district Fire and Rescue Department at 1.15pm.

In a statement, the department said a mountain guide had spotted Nazri, who was unconscious.

The Mosar team then immediately carried him down on a stretcher.

The victim arrived at the Timpohon Gate at 5.40pm, where a medical doctor and paramedics pronounced him dead.

Nazri's remains was then handed over to the police for further action.
