Sabah Suluk Association lodges police report against man for hate speech

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Suluk Association has lodged a report against a man for allegedly inciting racial hatred via a Whatsapp message.

The association’s secretary Datu Lakson Datu Majindi lodged the report this morning at the district police headquarters, here.

It is learnt that the individual had shared in a Whatsapp chat group called "Hala Tuju Politik Sabah", a photo of an injured body part, with the claim that the son of his younger brother was stabbed by the his friend, who is a Suluk.

"Why is there a need to bring up race? It is implying the Suluk people are bad. This is not good because it brings racial hatred and disunity.

"People are giving the wrong impression on the Suluk community. We are living in a diverse culture and we must hold on to unity.

"There is no need to bring racial matter in this situation. Why don't just name the culprit instead of mentioning the race," said Datu Lakson.

He stressed that hate speech towards other races has to stop, and the authorities need to step in to help maintain peace and harmony of the people.
