Wife appeals to public to help fund husband's cranial surgery

JOHOR BARU: A mother of three is appealing for public donations to raise funds for her husband to undergo a cranial corrective surgery.

Rabiatuladawyah Md Salleh, 41, who works as a language coordinator officer at Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka, hopes to raise money for the surgeries needed to restore her husband’s health as he is in a coma at KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital in Jalan Abdul Samad.

Rabiatuladawyah said her husband, Imran Liu, had undergone surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain at Hospital Sultanah Aminah when he was admitted for head injuries he sustained in an accident at the Iskandar Coastal Highway while on his way to work on Dec 18.

“My husband works in Singapore and he left for work at about 5am that day on his motorcycle. While he was on the highway he accidentally crashed into a large pile of construction earth that was left by the highway road shoulder.

Rabiatuladawyah said the area was poorly lit and she believed her husband did not see the mounds of earth.

According to her, the load of earth, which was left unattended without any safety markings to alert motorists, was done by a contractor from the Iskandar Puteri City Council.

The contractor was working on a landscaping project in the area.

Rabiatuladawyah said she had lodge complaints to MBIP and would claim for grievances compensation from the council on its failure to abide with work safety regulations.

“His corrective surgery and daily hospitalisation care would require around RM100,000,” she said.

She said her husband’s medical insurance was not enough to cover the medical expenses and hospitalisation fees.

“So I started this Imran Liu charity campaign and hope I can raise enough funds for his medical needs,” she said.

She is thankful to the Johor Religious Department who has come to her husband’s aid with a cash pledge for his daily sustenance needs during the course of his treatment.

The department assistant director (Dakwah unit) Alina Wong Abdullah, who visited Imran at the hospital, said she hoped the donation from the department would ease Rabiatuladwyah’s hardship and she prayed for Imran’s speedy recovery.
