Harley riders bring cheer to football legend

SUNGAI PETANI: The Northern Region Harley Group today brought cheer to national football legend Datuk Namat Abdullah who is down with colon cancer.

The group arrived on 18 high powered motorcycles and five cars led by its president Ahmad Tarmizi Mohd Saad.

Also present was National Athlete Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) Operation manager Aminuddin Mohd Nasir, former football coach Datuk Mohamad Bakar, former player Datuk Shukor Salleh and sepak takraw legend Adnan Saidin.

Tarmizi said the aid was part of its Sinar Kasih charity event to ease the burden faced by the 72-year-old former athlete.

"Besides Namat, we also present aid to two others former footballers Domi Che Non and Rahman Tasu plus to family of former sepak takraw player Abdul Rahman Md Nor.

He said Namat who was paralysed from the waist down due to stroke since two years ago now relied on pension and aid from Yakeb.

"The amount is insufficient to cover his medical expenses thus we came to lend him a hand," he said.

Tarmizi said the group planned to extend the programme to other states to help former national athletes who are in need.
