RAUB: Barely a week after recovering from flash floods, a continuous downpour early today triggered flooding which forced 19 people here from their homes.
The flood victims were evacuated to SK Ulu Atok at 6am after Sungai Lipis in Batu Malim burst its banks for the fourth time in two months.
State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said six families were ordered to leave their homes after the murky river water began to enter their premises.
"Continuous rain caused the river water to rise rapidly.
"The rain has stopped, and we hope (this) will help the water recede quickly," he added.
Zainal said the latest evacuation brings the number of flood victims in Pahang to 145 as of 10am.
He said 126 people from 27 families are taking shelter at the Sungai Baru Chedung relief centre and at the Kampung Baru Jara hall in Maran.
Yesterday, 407 people from six villages in Maran were evacuated to relief centres following heavy rain, before the situation improved in the evening.
