Siti Hasmah questioned by police over speech at 'toxic politics' rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali was questioned by the police today following a speech she made at the “Wanita Bantah Politik Toksik” (Women Against Toxic Politics) rally last year.

According to a series of Twitter posts by her daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Dr Siti Hasmah was questioned at the Al Bukhary Foundation, here.

“Morning all! Off to lend support to Mum while she’s being questioned by the cops for her speech at #wanitabantahpolitiktoksik last September. Imagine that! Some of us women going to keep her company. #whatisthiscountrycomingto,” she wrote.

Also present to lend support to Dr Siti Hasmah were activist Maria Chin Abdullah and human rights advocate Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan.

The “Wanita Bantah Politik Toksik” rally was held on Sept 10, 2017.

Among those who spoke during the demonstration, aside from Dr Siti Hasmah, were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Marina, Ambiga and Maria.

According to Marina, two police officers were present during the questioning today, which she said took almost an hour.

“Mum’s done, none the worse for wear. Now telling us all about it....” she tweeted about 1pm.
