Fight to help Palestine must go on, says Hadi

PUTRAJAYA: Muslims will continue to rise up against the oppression faced by the Palestinians, International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) vice president of Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

"The world, comprising Muslims countries, must continue to gather strength to fight and resolve issues involving Palestine and its people.

"We have learned of people belittling our effort in helping the Palestinians but they can't give proper reasoning in sidelining the issue.

"This is a matter that concerns millions of Muslims not just in Palestine but throughout the world," he said, in his opening speech at the MyAqsa Foundation (MyAqsa) Roundtable Conference today.

The conference, from yesterday to tomorrow, is held to discuss actions that could be taken by the world community and heads of Muslim countries following US President Donald Trump's declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

It is also aimed at introducing a resolution to be adopted as a new fatwa to be handed over to heads of Muslim countries for further action.

Hadi, who is also Pas president, called on the world to assist in resolving the Palestine issue.

"The whole world has to come together and stand united in the issue to fight the injustice towards the Muslim people.

"We believe this an issue that concerns everybody as it will be the biggest betrayal if Jerusalem is "zionised"," he added.

Meanwhile, Hadi also extended his gratitude to the Malaysian government, from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the security personnel for their commitment, aid and assistance extended to the people of Palestine.

Also present at the event was MyAqsa chief executive officer Dr NoorAzman Mohd Samsuddin.

Over 100 religious scholars from 30 countries has participated in the conference.

A resolution is expected to be announced at the end of the conference tomorrow.

Later today, a massive gathering 'Himpunan Munajat Aqsaku' will be held at the Dataran Putrajaya where Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom is expected to deliver a speech on behalf of the Malaysian government.
