PUTRAJAYA: Serving government officers who are pursuing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies can send their applications for scholarship extension by Feb 28.
Higher Education Ministry said the serving officers can submit the complete application for the scholarship extension to the ministry's Scholarship Division through their respective employers.
"As of Jan 5, the ministry has received 66 applications for the scholarship extension among the serving officers. The application is still being considered by the ministry.
"Based on the feedback, we have received many applications to extend the scholarship, but are still waiting for the support of their respective employers and universities,"
"Therefore, the ministry has agreed to extend the date for this application for the serving officers. They need to submit the application to the Scholarship Division latest by Feb 28," it said in a statement.
On Dec 21 last year, its minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said applications for scholarship extension to PhD students under the sponsorship of the ministry were open to those who should complete their studies before Nov 30 or until Dec 31, 2018 but having difficulties to finish them within the specified period.
He had said the ministry would take into consideration the applications made based on the case including those that took place before the the effective date of the announcement on Dec 14, which gave students the flexibility to extend their duration of studies.
Idris said all extension applications should be supported and certified by the universities where the students were studying and were serving (if applicable) including students who served as lecturers in polytechnics.
