PETALING JAYA: Three men, one of them armed with a revolver, escaped with jewellery worth RM720,000 after robbing a jewellery store at the Giant Kota Damansara shopping complex here today.

The men, donning ski masks, stormed the premises at about 11.47am and carted away eight trays of jewellery before fleeing in a white Perodua Myvi.

It is understood that this is the second time the outlet has been robbed in four months.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the suspects, believed to be locals, were armed with a 3.8mm revolver.

“During the incident, one of the suspects aimed the revolver at a security guard and snatched his pump gun.

“The other two men, meanwhile, took the jewellery trays that were placed at the display area,” he said in a statement.

Zani said the suspects fled the scene and discarded the pump gun at a parking lot outside the shopping complex.

“Checks revealed that the suspects’ car registration number, VA 8247, is fake,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim Shafeae, who witnessed the incident, said he saw three men in ski masks running towards the jewellery story after entering the building.

“It was complete and utter chaos. Shoppers and supermarket workers screamed out in fear and ran away.

“I saw one of the men aiming a gun at the security guard before snatching his pump gun. He also told the guard to lie face down,” the 37-year-old man told reporters.

Rahim, who works at a doughnut store nearby, said despite his panicked state, he immediately contacted the police to report the incident.
