Opposition's 'seat hopping' shows they are insincere to the people

PASIR SALAK: The opposition’s act of shifting seats to find ‘safe zones’ to contest in the general election is evidence that they prioritise power and personal agenda instead of the people’s interest.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said this practice clearly differs from that of Barisan Nasional leaders, who remain loyal to the seats they had contested before.

“Take a look at BN representatives. Even if we lose, we do not switch constituencies but remain loyal and continue to serve in the same area. This is unlike the opposition, whom even when they win, still run away to other seats.

“While it is within their right to contest where they wish, why do they need to ‘run away’ elsewhere? This clearly proves that they are insincere in their service and when they feel that they could lose, they run,” he said.

Tajuddin was speaking to reporters after presenting school aid at SMK Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah in Seberang Perak, today.

He was asked to comment on reports that opposition leaders were ready to contest in other areas in the coming 14th General Election.

Reports had suggested that the leaders included Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament and PKR vice-president

Nurul Izzah Anwar; Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.

Reports also suggest that in Perak, there is a possibility that Changkat Jering assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin may switch to contest in Sungai Rapat in GE14.

Tajuddin said the rakyat must realise that this is the true nature of the opposition leaders, who appear to be running away from their unfulfilled responsiblities to the people in their five years in power.

“They only know how to criticise the government and seek out political issues. The people need them to highlight numerous matters and they’re nowhere to be found in their respective areas.

“To the opposition, power and position are everything, responsibility comes second. When they sense that the people are on the verge of rejecting them, they run to another constituency,” he said.

The people, he said, should give a new mandate to BN in GE14, as it was evident that its representatives carry out their resposibilities fully for the people.

“To the voters, enough of believing in the opposition. Give us the mandate.”
