Do not stoke racial tension ahead of GE14 - Mufti

KOTA BARU: Stirring of racial tension especially ahead of the 14th general election (GE14) would not bode well for the country’s future.

In advising the people to uphold their sense of unity and decorum prior to the polls season, Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said sensitive issues that could affect racial ties should not be sensationalised.

“If possible, please refrain from promoting or highlighting sensitive issues. We do not want racial harmony to be affected by hurtful words.

“We must be careful with our words, (and even if there is an argument) we must choose our words wisely and tactfully, so we will not hurt the people around us,” Mohamad Shukri said when contacted today.

He added a peaceful approach to address certain issues would undoubtedly preserve the nation’s harmony.

“We do not want Malaysia to turn into Syria or Iraq, both are currently rocked by unrest. Malaysians must live within a harmonious setting. We must pay our respect and reach out to each other.”
