Menora Tunnel crash triggers 5km traffic crawl

IPOH: The Menora Tunnel was closed off to traffic this morning, triggering a five-kilometre traffic crawl due to an accident involving two vehicles at KM261.4 of the North-South Highway (PLUS), headed north.

A PLUS spokesman said that as a result of the accident, both lanes along the tunnel had to be temporarily closed off.

The lanes were eventually reopened at 12pm after debris cleanup works were completed.

“Traffic was backed up for five-kilometres from Ipoh towards Kuala Kangsar,” said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, a Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they were alerted to the incident at 11.31am.

The accident involved a collision between a Proton Saga and a Proton Saga Aeroback.

“The victims were not at the accident scene when the firemen arrived. Our personnel also swept the area to ensure that there were no other victims involved,” he said.
