Corrupt Kelantan politicians on MACC radar

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is probing several politicians in Kelantan over their suspected involvement in corruption.

Kelantan MACC director Datuk Moh Samsuddin Yusof said the commission is now monitoring the politicians, who are suspected of having taken brbes, before taking the next course of action.

He, however, declinedc to give details on the politicians’ backgrounds but said they were from several districts in the state.

On another note, Moh said eight civil servants from several agencies, as well as a civilian, were arrested for various corruption offences last year.

"The nine were arrested for accepting between RM500 and RM5,000 from certain individuals. They were detained in several locations throughout Kelantan," he told reporters.

During the period, he said state MACC received a total of 201 complaints from the public. Most of the complaints, he said, were on abuse of power with the rest on making making false claims bribe-taking.

He said the commission has opened investigation papers for 14 of the 201 cases. The rest are in their initial investigation stage.
