Drowned woman avid angler who would broadcast fishing trips live

SUNGAI BULOH: Silawati Zailani, one of those who drowned after being swept away by swift currents in a river here, was an avid angler.

Her sister-in-law, Suryani Abdur Rahman, said Silawati was such a fishing enthusiast that she would often broadcast her fishing activities live on social media.

However, the 31-year-old’s demeanour suddenly changed of late, according to Suryani.

“The way she acted changed... usually she would call me kak su, but the day before she started calling me kak long.”

Suryani said when she first heard that some people were feared drowned in Sungai Buloh, she did not think anything of it.

“Silawati usually fishes in Port Klang, so I didn’t think she would be involved in the incident as it occurred in Sungai Buloh,” she said, her voice breaking, outside the Sungai Buloh Hospital mortuary.

Silawati’s body was sent to the mortuary at 12.30pm by the Fire and Rescue Department after it was found on the banks of Sungai Gasi.
