KL police analysing footage of Penang senior citizen being kicked off motorcycle

GEORGE TOWN: Police have obtained a copy of dashcam footage showing a senior citizen motorcyclist being brutally kicked off his machine and injured by another motorcyclist along Gurney Road here on Saturday.

The footage, which was obtained from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), will be analysed by the Forensic Department and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in Kuala Lumpur.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said the investigation will attempt to ascertain the registration number plate of the attacker’s motorcycle, which they were unable to do with the initial footage, as it was grainy.

He said the footage was sent to Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, last night for analysis; and that the PDRM’s Forensic Department is expected to release a complete investigation report in the next two weeks.

“I urge the suspect to come forward and assist in the investigation, as he will (otherwise) be hunted down by the police,” he said.

Anuar made his comments at the closing ceremony of the Light Strike Force (LFS) revision course at the northeast police headquarters (IPDTL) here today.

The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries three years’ imprisonment and a fine, or both, upon conviction.

In the 5.30pm incident last week, Abdul Halil Mohamed Noor, 66, was kicked off his motorcycle and onto the road at Gurney Drive as he was driving home from Masjid Jamek Lama.

Abdul Halil fractured four left ribs and sustained injuries on his hands, knees and toes in the incident.

A nearby Uber driver’s dashcam captured the incident, and the video clip went viral on social media.

The Uber driver also helped transport Abdul Halil to the Penang hospital before sending a copy of her dashcam footage to the authorities.
