BINTULU: Up to 200 factory workers were left without shelter after their quarters went up in smoke in a massive blaze at the Samalaju Industrial Park here yesterday.
Officer-in-charge of the Bintulu Fire and Rescue station Mohd Meramit said that the fire is believed to have broken out at 6pm at the second of the quarters’ two blocks.
“The quarters had a total of 50 rooms housing 300 factory workers. Thirty rooms at the second block were totally destroyed in the fire,” he said today.
Mohd said no casualty was reported, as all the workers managed to escape.
Losses and cause of the fire are being ascertained. – BERNAMA
