2 women killed in separate motorcycle accidents in Seberang Jaya

SEBERANG JAYA: Two women were killed in separate accidents here today.

In the first incident at 1.30pm, a female motorcyclist was killed when the machine she was riding fell from a flyover after grazing with another vehicle.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the victim, whose identity has yet to be established, died instantly.

He said initial investigations showed the victim was heading from the Seberang Jaya roundabout towards Kulim, when her motorcycle grazed an unidentified vehicle while on the flyover. She lost control of the machine and crashed into the road divider, resulting in the victim falling from the flyover.

“The victim’s body was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post mortem,” he said.

He said the investigation would cover all angles as there were claims that the woman could have been a snatch theft victim.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident an hour earlier, a female pillion rider died after the machine she was on grazed the right side divider, causing both to fall.

The incident happened at the Butterworth Kulim Expressway.

He said the motorcyclist was rushed for hospital for treatment.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act.
