39 Kelantan Orang Asli made forest rangers

GUA MUSANG: Thirty-nine Orang Asli were today appointed as forest rangers in Kelantan.

Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department director-general Datuk Nor Akhirrudin Mahmud said they would act as the “eyes and ears” of the state Forestry Department.

He said they were from the Gua Musang Civil Defence Force (APM).

“They will report to state forestry officers if they came across illegal logging and other activities in the state’s forests.

“They will also act as ambassadors on forestry issues to local people, particularly to the Orang Asli community,” he said at the launch of the APM forest ranger teams in Sungai Nenggiri base camp here.
