One dead, six injured in car crash

KAMPAR: A man was killed and his friend seriously injured when their vehicle collided with a car containing a family at Kilometer 17.6, Jalan Ipoh – Kuala Lumpur near Rumah Pengasih Amanjaya, Gopeng last night.

A. Santhiran, 32, died on the spot while his friend, S Gunaseelan, 31, was seriously injured when their Perodua Myvi collided with a family of five in their Proton Saga, in the 7.35pm accident.

Kampar police chief Superintendent Ng Kong Soon said S Gunaseelan broke both his legs and is now in a coma at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), Ipoh.

According to him, the family in the Proton Saga was from Sungai Manik, Teluk Intan.

“The driver, Nurzeatun Anuar, 28, sustained injuries on her leg and body. Father, Anuar Zakaria, 64, has internal injuries whereas the mother, Rahimah Mohd Isa, 59, broke her right leg. Nurzeatun’s younger sister, Norlia Anuar was badly hurt in the face and a daughter, Dhia Adieera Nizar Hamidi, 3, experienced severe wounds on her body.

“Initial investigations showed the Myvi was en route from Kampar to Ipoh. The driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle, and it entered the opposite lane.

“At the same time, the family in their Proton Saga, with the driver, a clerk at Kampar District Police Headquarters (IPD) came from the opposite direction. The driver didn't have time to brake,” he said when contacted today.

“All the victims were sent to HRPB whereas the deceased was sent to Hospital Kampar for a post-mortem at 10pm last night,” he said.

He said they had informed A. Santhiran’s family about the accident and the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
