Man high on drugs walks into Kajang police station, tries to grab cop's submachine gun

KAJANG: A man high on drugs walked into the Sungai Long police station here early today and attempted to snatch a submachine gun from a sentry policeman.

A scuffle then broke out between the 23-year-old man and the policeman, before the former was subdued and apprehended with the help of other officers at 2.40am.

It is understood that the policeman injured his right wrist in the tussle.

“The man suddenly charged at the on-duty sentry policeman and tried to snatch his HK MP5 after he walked into the police station.

“A fight took place between the suspect and the sentry policeman. However, he was nabbed with the assistance of officers from the enquiry office,” Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said in a statement today.

He added that initial investigation revealed that the man was acting under the influence of drugs; and that he has a criminal record involving a fraud case.

The incident is being investigated under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 for disorderly conduct in a police station; and Section 332 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.
