Lorry driver killed in 3-vehicle collision on Jalan Kuching

KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver was killed when his vehicle collided with two cars at Jalan Kuching early Saturday morning.

The victim, Mohd Nasir Jaai@ Mispan, 53, from Kg Tok Pinang, Serendah, succumbed to head injuries he sustained in the 3.20am incident.

City Traffic and Enforcement Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the accident is believed to have occurred when a car failed to overtake the lorry.

"All three vehicles were heading towards Selayang when the incident took place. The lorry was travelling on the middle lane when a car tried to overtake on the right lane.

"The failed overtake attempt caused the car to struck the rear of the lorry. Due to the collision, lorry driver lost control of his vehicle, swerved to the left and crashed into another car.

"Following that, the lorry smashed into trees by the side of the road," he said in a statement today.

Zulkefly said the victim, who trapped in the lorry, had to be extracted by the firemen.

He added that the driver’s remains have been brought to the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
