SUNGAI PETANI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today approved a RM222 million allocation to solve treated water supply issues in the Merbok parliamentary constituency and upgrading of the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) in Tanjung Dawai.
Najib, who is on a two-day work visit to Kedah, said from the total, RM147 million is allocated to upgrade a water treatment facility in Bukit Selambau to improve its production capacity from 30 million litres per day (mld) to 70 mld, which will begin next month.
He also announced a RM50 million allocation to build an off-river storage in Sungai Merbok and another RM19 million allocation to repair water tanks and replace aging water pipes in Tanjung Dawai and Merbok.
"I also wish to announce an RM6 million allocation to upgrade the LKIM Complex in Tanjung Dawai to further improve the livelihood of fishermen here," he said when opening the ‘Muafakat Kedah’ Fishermen Settlement in Tanjung Dawai here today.
Present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, LKIM chairman Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim, State Secretary Datuk Bakar Din, and Tanjung Dawai assemblyman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain, who is also Merbok Umno division chief.
