#Offbeat: AirAsia passengers angry after woman takes up premium seats, video goes viral

KUALA LUMPUR: Will you get irritated if someone occupies a seat on the plane they are not supposed to?

It certainly is for Hong Kong citizen Bruce Lam, who shared his encounter with such a person on social media, and the 22-second video has since gone viral.

Lam was flying AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and had paid for one of the premium seats or ‘hot seats’ (the front six rows and emergency exit rows).

When he got on the plane, he noticed a woman had moved from the standard seat to a 'hot seat' near him.

AirAsia flight attendants then asked her to vacate the seat to which she obliged.

Shortly after the plane took off, she went back to the seat again.

This time, she even lied down to occupy the entire row of the 'hot seats'.

Again, the air crew asked the woman to take the seat allocated to her but she refused to budge.

Indignant, Lam told her off.

“The air crew had told you three times to move and yet you did not budge,"

“I’m scolding you because you have no shame,” said Lam in Cantonese.

The woman, who was seen fiddling with her phone, retorted by saying that it was none of his business before finally moving away.

As of this writing, the post had 6,710 shares with 13,000 likes.

Lam also remarked that the air crew later thanked him for standing up to the woman.

The air crew told him that it was not unusual for them to encounter such passengers.

Netizens sided with Lam on the matter and praised him for rebuking the woman.

Passengers have the freedom to choose their seat on AirAsia flights, but for a fee.

If they choose not to pick a seat, passengers will still be allocated a seat number at check-in.
